SUMMARY:Prefabricated Clay Panels
DESCRIPTION:ClayWall is a 5/8″ to 3/4″ thick clay plaster panel system that uses a form and a textile [burlap] skin. The panels are 2’x4′. The system is akin to homemade drywall but more apt to being a substrate for lime plasters. It is in very early stages of development but has been used on a couple of high-performance and ecologically focused homes.\nThe class will consist of a two hour demonstration of how to build and install the panels. A pre-installed example might be available (possibly in the new CR office building?).\nRelevance: The experimental system is an attempt to stimulate creative thinking around how to avoid gypsum based and none local wall substrates. While a nascent technology, I am excited to share my findings and gain feedback from other skilled professionals in this realm.\n
