SUMMARY:Carbon Storing Buildings: Straw as a Climate Justice Solution
DESCRIPTION:The combined crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequity present a great disruption in our industry that provides us with an opportunity to restructure how we develop the built environment. Building with short-cycle agricultural residues such as straw provide us the ability to bank carbon in our buildings, while also supporting regenerative agricultural and silvicultural practices and creating access to marginalized communities to both build and inhabit our buildings. In this presentation, we will look at theory, data, and case study showcasing the power of aligning agriculture, forestry, social equity, and construction to create opportunity out of disruption.\n
