HVAC Systems for an Energy-Positive Building

Too often the natural building world creates a great building with a decent mechanical system. We need to have the tools to get it right every time: every building making more energy than it consumes. In this presentation and discussion, we will review options to help hit that target. We will discuss technologies like pushing passive solar design further, radiant cooling and heating, air-source heat pumps: there are a lot of options here– VRF/mini-split/multi-split– what do those systems mean? How are they different? What are the pros and cons of all these ideas? Let’s get down the nitty-gritty of how to use less energy.
Relevance: Natural Building and low energy go hand in hand. We need to keep pushing for more efficient –and more affordable– HVAC systems. I look forward to sharing experience from designing hundreds of systems with this group.
